Weekend Review

We had a very low key laid back weekend.
We've discovered the art of binge watching.  We started Parenthood on netflix Thursday afternoon and finished the first season this weekend.  I love the Braverman family.
Friday I went to dinner with Lorie and Kristen.  It had been almost two months since we'd been together.  I told Lorie I felt like a bad friend because Olivia is almost 2 months old and I've seen her exactly twice.  After dinner I headed to Target for a few minutes of "me time".  Truthfully I wanted to get some things to make cookies with Barrett on Saturday.  When I got home our new family photo canvas had arrived.  I was so excited.  It is my goal to have at least one family photo each year made into a canvas for this spot in our living room.  I moved the one that was here to the stairs,  Eventually I'll put together a gallery wall for that space but probably not anytime soon because I don't tend to do things in a timely manner.  Especially things involving interior decorating.
Saturday, Patrick had to work so Barrett and I delivered Valentines to a few of his friends.  It was fun.  I really want to make holidays special around here.  I struggle with where the line is between making things special and going overboard/ spoiling.  I thought taking little treats to people would be a fun way to make the day special but still putting the focus on others. Of course Barrett got a little treat from us and from both sets of grandparents.  I also took Barrett to the park for a bit while the sun was out.  He decided he was a big boy and would climb the rock wall.  He did so good.
When Patrick got home we decided we would get Cracker Barrel for dinner.  The sky was so pretty when we were getting in the car.
This stinker has been keeping me on my toes.
Sunday we went to Mass and then came home for naps.  For dinner we headed to the Horton's house to celebrate Patrick's brother's birthday.
It's been cold and yucky here today.  We're looking forward to a little getaway in the mountains.  We borrowed some cold weather gear and Barrett was trying on some of the hats for us before dinner.  He was so cute!
That was our weekend.  We've got a busy month at work.  I'm so thankful for all the jobs.  I really love my job and I love that this month I'm doing two big projects for friends.  Well not really for friends but for jobs they're working on.  It means a lot that they trust me with the tasks.  I've also got several little projects.  Spring is usually our busy time of year so we're looking forward to it.

The Horton House Daily: Week 6

Here's week 6 of 2015!

Day 36:  Patrick started working on the play area in the back yard.  Sometimes when I give him a project he gets a little carried away.  I've started calling this "Six Flags over Morris".  Hopefully it'll be completed by Spring.
Day 37:  My parents kept Barrett and we got to go on a date.  We went to see American Sniper.  It was so good.  After the movie we went to The Cheesecake Factory for appetizers and dessert.  It was delicious.
Day 38:  We had family night out and went to dinner at Chili's.  The boys had so much fun playing on this game thing they have on the tables.  Barrett looks so old.  I don't like it.
Day 39:  We had nachos for dinner with "ballpark" cheese.  Its so gross and so good.
Day 40: I forgot to take a picture so I shared Barrett's valentines for his class.  I found cute little popup books in the dollar section at Target.  I was so excited.  They turned out so cute.

Day 41:  We introduced Barrett to the wonderful world of Toy Story.  My favorite part of the day is snuggling with him before bed.
Day 42:  Barrett's teacher sent me this picture of him eating a cupcake a the Valentine party.  She said he had two.  I'm not surprised.

We've had a kind of crummy week around here.  I'm so thankful for this little ray of sunshine in the storms of life.  He brings us so much joy.

Weekend Fun! We went to the Zoo!

We had a beautiful, fun weekend!  The weather made me so ready for Spring.  Friday, Barrett and I worked half a day and then played hookie because it was way to pretty to be inside.  It was a little cool but that didn't stop us.  We met some friends at the zoo and it was perfect.
Steven made Barrett an envelope so he could keep up with his spending money.  We ate a quick lunch when we got there then we headed out to see everything!
These boys were not impressed with these fish.
Being silly in front of the mirror in the primate house.
Group shot in the primate house.  The boys once again were not impressed.
This tiger just kept pacing in front of the window.  I'm pretty sure he wanted to eat the children.  The boys just giggled every time he came by.
The giraffes.
This ostrich kept looking at us like he was going to come out and peck us to death but the boys loved him.
We were practically the only people there.  It was so nice.  We were able to take our time and just enjoy each animal.  Half of our group left and we went to ride the train.
These two were very excited to ride!
My big boy would not sit in my lap on the train.  He sat beside me and held my hand.  Why do they have to grow up so fast?

Barrett and I hurried home to get ready.  Barrett got to spend the night with my parents so Patrick and I could have a Date night.  First we went to look at furniture.  We're getting new bedroom furniture and I can't wait!  After that we went to see American Sniper.  It was so good.  I'm still in awe of Chris Kyle.  I want to read the book now.  Its one of those movies that I think everyone ought to see.  After the movie we went to Cheesecake Factory for appetizers and dessert.  It did not disappoint.
We slept late Saturday.  I wanted to get a couple things done around the house before I picked Barrett up.  I finally got my closet cleaned out.  I had to run to Target to pick up some valentines for Barrett's class.  Patrick worked in the yard.  I went to get Barrett and visited with my parents for a while.  I put Barrett down for a nap and we hung out outside for a while.  It was so pretty out.
I was so excited to pick up some of these beauties at Target.  They just remind me of being a kid.
Saturday night we were on a mission to get a new battery for out laptop.  We had dinner at Chili's.  I was so disappointed the first time I ate there and they had these things on the table where you could play games.  But I have to admit I enjoyed watching these two play together while we were waiting on our food.  Every time Barrett would score he would throw his hands up and cheer. I laughed so hard.
Today we went to Mass and then came home and ate lunch.  After lunch I had to return something to Macy's so we did that and we were still on a mission to find a battery.  We finally got one. Yay!  It was a busier weekend that we'd planned but it was fun.

The Horton House Daily: Week 5

Day 29:  We went to the park to play with a friend.  Barrett was so sad when he left that he ran to the fence to wave bye.  It was pretty adorable.

Day 30:  We had book club.  I got this beauty to celebrate the January birthdays.  It was delicious and heavy. Like it was heavy to carry around the store.  Publix bakery did not disappoint.

Day 31:  After bath time we watched The Land Before Time.  I did not remember it being so sad.

Day 32:  Barrett has started going under the end table to get in the corner behind my big chair.  He just plays back there with his cars.  Its his own little clubhouse.
Day 33:  My little dare devil.  He's started climbing like crazy.  Even his teachers commented on it.

Day 34:  Photography by Barrett.

Day 35:  This poor girl needs a haircut.  I hate getting it cut when its cold because I always wait to long and they have to shave her.  I'm a terrible dog mom.

Week 5 has come to a close.  We are one week closer to a little vacation and I can't wait.

February Goals

My goals this month were thrown out the window when all the sickness started taking over.  It has been one thing after another and we're all feeling crummy.  I did manage to get my Christmas decorations down but that really is about it.
I have been praying more.  Making it a point to pray every night before bed.  I've started to write in a prayer journal and I've felt like it really holds me more accountable.  I also started ready "Praying Circles around your Family" (I think that's the name of it.  It's on my kindle I'll have to check when I get home) It's pretty powerful.
I have not cooked more nor did I clean out my closet.  I have been a little more patient with Barrett (but it's probably because he's been sick.)  I'm working on it though.
I did get my Christmas decorations down.  So I'm considering this month a victory.  We've also battled the flu and colds and sinus infections.  It's been a doozy of a month.
I didn't write a pretty card for February.  I know you're sad.  It's basically going to be all the things I missed in January.
So for February I'm going to...
Clean out my closet.
Find a devotional and use it.
Cook More.
Be Patient.
Have a Date Night.
I've also put myself of a spending freeze.  I've spent so much money {cough} on myself {cough} I need to cool it!  I've done good so far. You know all 2 days.

I think I can handle this.  Hopefully we wont be sick all month!

Horton House Daily: Week 4

Well January is flying right by.  Here you have our 4th week of 2015.
Day 22:  He fussed and fussed.  I finally as a last resort put him in this box with an iPad.  He was so happy and say there for a while just watching Mickey.

Day 23:  Was supposed to be a date night but Barrett got sick so Patrick had to stay home with him while I went to my friend Jessica's surprise 30th birthday dinner.  It was a lot of fun, I was sad Patrick didn't get to come too.
Day 24:  We stayed home all day.  Barrett was still running a fever but he did play a lot.  He drug this doggy with the pull string everywhere.  It was so cute.

Day 25:  More cuddling and watching movies.  He loves for me to snuggle with him under a blanket on the couch so that's what we did pretty much all day.

Day 26:  Another sick day for Barrett but I had so many orders to fill this week I had to go to the office for a couple of hours when Patrick got home from work.

Day 27:  We had my favorite...Breakfast for dinner!

Day 28:  Barrett didn't want me to take his picture.  He just wanted to play with my phone.  I'm sad he wont just pose and smile for me anymore.

Weekend Review

Our weekend was a little different than we originally planned.  Barrett has had a terrible cough for a couple weeks and I didn't think anything of it.  He had no other symptoms so I was just keeping an hear on it.  Well he woke up Friday morning with a fever of 102.9 and a very snotty face.
So we headed to the doctors office.  Barrett was so pitiful.  His flu test and RSV test both came back negative so we were told just to treat the fever.  That's what we've done...all weekend long.  He was supposed to spend the night with my parents Friday night so Patrick and I could go to my friend Jessica's Surprise 30th birthday dinner.  But that didn't happen.
Patrick ended up staying home with Barrett and I went with some girlfriends.  I was so sad that he didn't get to go but I guess that's just part of being a parent.  We had a fun night celebrating Jessica.

I was really looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday but that didn't happen.  My sick boy was up early.  He was super sweet all day though.  I felt so bad for him.  We watched a lot of Mickey Mouse and movies.
He drug this doggy around every where Saturday.  It was pretty cute.  I went ahead and went to Mass Saturday night because Patrick had to work Sunday and I knew I didn't want to take Barrett with me.  After Mass Patrick wanted me to pick up Cracker Barrel for dinner.  I love Cracker Barrel but Patrick says he doesn't like it so we never get to eat there.  Well thankfully some guys at work told him that the chicken and dumplins were delicious (even though I'd been telling him this for years, I guess it isn't true unless the guys from work agree).  I got there and it took 10 minutes for someone to take my order and then I had to wait another 20 minutes for my food.  There was a 45 minute wait for a table...at Cracker Barrel.  I thought that was so crazy.  I had no idea they were that busy.  the good news is Patrick is a fan and when he saw how cheap it was he was sold.  I think we'll be eating there more and I'm really excited about it.
He apparently wasn't interested in what we were watching on tv.  He got his iPad and watched Mickey.
This was what our Sunday looked like.  Lots of cuddling and and tv.  My parents came to see him Sunday afternoon and I know he was excited to see them.  Patrick went to his parents for a birthday dinner and we hated to miss but the sick boy needed to stay home.
Barrett slept late this morning and he woke up without a fever.  So hopefully we're on the mend.  I've got to go into the office at some point today.  I'll probably wait until Patrick gets home so Barrett can have one more day to rest.  Hopefully he'll be 100% tomorrow.
There's our weekend.  I hope everyone is staying well.

Friday Favorites

Oh today's not Friday...well lets just pretend like I got this posted yesterday....K? Thanks!
In an effort to blog more I'm sharing some of my favorite things this week.

Norvell Spray Tan
Obviously, this isn't me but I love the results from this product.  I know I've mentioned a good friend of mine owns a local salon and I'm hooked on the spray tan.  Its such an easy and effective process.  It really is that dramatic in minutes.  We've been going in groups for a fun girls night.  I love being sprayed by a person versus a booth (although I've never done the booth so that's probably not a fair statement).  And maybe I'm shallow but I just love having a little color on my skin.

Talenti Gelato
I picked this up on a whim the other day at the store.  I love sea salt and caramel and this did not disappoint.  I'm going to try some different flavors because Patrick really liked it but he's not a huge fan of sea salt and caramel.

Kindle Paperwhite
I've been holding out on getting an electronic reader for a while now because I'm a big fan of an actual book.  But while we were in Mexico a couple girls had kindles and I loved that they could bring several books for the same weight in their luggage (which is a big deal when traveling as a woman).  I've already ready 3 or 4 books this year since I got this thing for Christmas.  It's so easy to throw in my purse and read on the go.

Clarisonic Mia
This was another of my Christmas presents (Patrick did so good this year).  Again while we were in Mexico a couple girls had one and they raved about them.  I've been using mine for almost a month and I think my skin looks better and it definitely feels better.  It's also made me wash my face more because it's so fun.  I've always taken my makeup off every night but I didn't always wash my face.  Now that I do I can can really tell a difference.  Now I need to find a miracle product for these wrinkles that are creeping up.

Blanket Scarves and Booties
I've posted these before but I'm still loving them so much.  I love how warm and fluffy the blanket scarves are and those booties are so comfortable and versatile.  I wear them with everything,  My uniform this season is jeans, a tunic, a blanket scarf  and booties.  I love that it's still comfortable when I'm chasing a two year old but I still look put together.

So there you have it.  My current Friday Favorites, posted on Saturday.  Better late than never I guess.  Now to snuggle my sick boy.  I'm ready for sunshine and warm weather.
